Specific operational requirements drive early network architectural and design decisions for 4G networks. This book evaluates the specific design and deployment options and strategies for LTE network business development. LTE is a robust and flexible standard for 4G communications, with many deployment options. Operators developing 4G deployment strategies must consider these options and their tradeoffs in order to maximize return on investment for LTE networks. Operators must develop detailed but flexible deployment roadmaps to comprehend their business requirements while allowing the agility that unexpected network evolution will require in order to avoid costly redeployment while leveraging profitable traffic. Network upgrade and architectural evolution roadmaps (with options) must be clearly understood and communicated. §The book will examine various architectural options provided by the flexibility of LTE and their effect on the general current and future capability of the designed network. Specific features will be examined, and specific example architectural deployment strategies examined for their implications on near term and out year operations and evolutionary paths. The book will outline specific overall network strategies, what network features and deployment strategies support those network strategies, and the tradeoffs in business models implied by these strategies. A process for proactive management of network roadmap evolution will be proposed.
