Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard star in this war drama directed by Mark Robson. When US pilot Colonel Joseph Ryan (Sinatra) is shot down over Italy and placed in a German prisoner of war camp, he is more concerned with ensuring his own survival than escape. The top-ranking officer in the camp, he is initially reviled by his fellow British and American prisoners. However, when Italy surrenders, the Germans transport the prisoners north and Ryan and fellow prisoner Major Eric Fincham (Howard) must overcome their differences and work together if they are going to save the lives of the men. The cast also includes Raffaella Carra, Sergio Fantoni and Adolfo Celi.
