Kodály war der erste, der das Cellorepertoire - nach 200 Jahren Bachscher Suiten - um ein großes Solowerk erweiterte. Er komponierte eine nahezu unglaublich virtuose Sonate, und man kann sich fragen, warum nicht ein Streichquartett daraus wurde.
