Yannick, ein 16-jähriger Schüler, erlebt eine unbeschwerte Jugend. Das Verhältnis zu seinen Eltern ist harmonisch, seine zahlreichen Freunde schätzen und respektieren ihn. Über allem steht seine Freundin Jenny, die er aufrichtig liebt. Ein plötzlicher Autounfall, bei dem er schwer verletzt wird, reißt ihn aus seiner Idylle. Nach einem stationären Krankenhausaufenthalt besucht er eine neurologische Fachklinik, in der er langsam lernt, mit seinem neuen Leben zurechtzukommen und seine Behinderung zu akzeptieren. Doch persönliche Tiefschläge werfen ihn in seinem mühsamen Genesungsprozess immer wieder zurück. So trennen sich seine Eltern nach gegenseitigen Schuldvorwürfen, Freunde wenden sich von ihm ab, berufliche Ziele lassen sich nicht mehr realisieren. Auch die Beziehung zu seiner Freundin geht in die Brüche. Dadurch fällt Yannick in eine immer größer werdende Lethargie, bis er einen endgültigen Entschluss fasst.
