Here, Jacob Brillhart excavates the "visual thinking" of the twentieth century's pioneer architect, reproducing a selection of 175 drawings from the early sketchbooks of Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, whom we now know as Le Corbusier. Between 1907 and 1911, Jeanneret studied in Switzerland and traveled through Europe and the East, filling sketchbooks with exquisitely detailed drawings. Brillhart traces his steps, revisiting architectural history while providing a physical and intellectual road map for students, travelers, and lovers of art and architecture. The first book to provide a succinct collection of Jeanneret's drawings, some of which are previously unpublished, Voyage Le Corbusier encourages a new generation to learn to see. It makes a case for the enduring creative potential of live drawing at a time when the teaching and practice of architecture is increasingly organized around design software and when the cooperative poetics of eye, hand, paper, and pencil is in danger of being lost.
