La poesía es el medio por el cual el ser humano se pregunta sobre su propia existencia, la complejidad de su ser y la trascendencia, y para ello se vale de un lenguaje metafórico y figurativo de gran valor estético. Sin embargo, este lenguaje debe ser analizado para "poner al descubierto" la esencia de lo que dichas figuras de pensamiento expresan. Para ello, se debe recurrir a un método que ayude a "desentrańar" el sentido o mensaje que se encierra en la obra literaria. En el presente ensayo se analiza el poema "Viento negro" del autor guatemalteco, César Brańas, desde la estética de Martin Heidegger y la visión de la Fenomenología, es decir, desde la descripción de los modos de ser de la muerte. Sin embargo, el presente no es un trabajo descriptivo; es, fundamentalmente, interpretativo y mostrativo. Su objetivo es seńalar la trascendencia y el aporte de "Viento negro" a la literatura universal, con el propósito de contribuir a la investigación sobre la literatura guatemalteca y su inserción dentro de la literatura universal.
