Der Krieg in Afghanistan ist in den USA meist nur medial vermittelt erfahrbar. Der journalistische Diskurs trägt dabei dazu bei, ein Bild dieses Krieges zu erzeugen, welches den Krieg als ein unblutiges und kontrolliertes Unternehmen vorstellt. Verunsichert wird dieses journalistische Bild allerdings durch Bilder exzessiver Gewalt, die in sozialen Netzwerken oder in fiktiven Medienformaten zu sehen sind. Annika Bach untersucht mittels einer Foucaultschen Diskursanalyse die Regeln, welche den journalistischen Diskurs der USA über den Afghanistankrieg strukturieren und zeigt auf, wie besonders die Bilder dieses Krieges selbst ein umkämpftes Krisengebiet sind.
