When Kay Ellis is offered the job of assistant anthropologist at the Henry Proutman Museum, she is at first excited to have a fulltime, well-paying job in a new town. But things turn sour when she meets the museum's owner, Zaydee Proutman, the aging and self-centered widow of the museum's founder. Zaydee has her sights set on Kay's supervisor, Dr. Gordon, as husband number two, and sees Kay as nothing more than competition. Even the director, Alpheus Harvey, seems to look at her askance-he had expected a K. Ellis, not a Kay Ellis. In fact, the only encouragement Kay receives is from Alice Barton, the museum's librarian. So when Zaydee disappears one dark night, why does the sheriff think Kay has something to do with it....? 

BLOOD FROM A STONE

Susan Kent has come to France to explore caves. She has no more ulterior motive than to search for ancient archeological treasures. So why does it seem that the locals are so suspicious? First there is Marc, mysterious son of the elderly Comte de l'Arize. Her digging assistant, Jean-Marie, is certainly no open book either. Nor is the Englishman, Sir Cyril, who claims to be just as interested in archeology as Susan, but refuses to get involved in any actual discussions. The school teachers, M. Dumas and his wife, seem outright hostile. Even her companion, Neva, is acting like someone with a secret. When she almost plummets into a cave well, she wonders if it is just an accident. Or could it be that someone is actually trying to kill her?
