Approximately half of the distance was accomplished on foot, the rest by canoe or post cart. Through Arctic Lapland provids a first-hand account of the way of life of the inhabitants of the region and as an example of a style of travel writing that was common for the time. Charles John Cutcliffe Wright Hyne was a novelist perhaps best remembered for The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis and his Captain Kettle series which was based on a South Shields sea captain, Davey Proffit.
