Ethera Heart had always been an outsider. In high school, that meant relentless bullying, cruel stares, and whispers about her white patch of hair and the fiery fists that defended her. Predators didn't always bear their teeth, and sometimes they came in the shape of childhood friends, star students, and mean girls.

After another fight that lands her in detention, Ethera and her four classmates are suddenly ripped from the school's library and dropped into a world ruled by beasts that attack, elves that wield, demons that poison, and pirates that drown in drink.
