Man kann über eine historische oder gesellschaftliche Gegenwartsanalyse nachdenken, über die Frage, warum Menschen sich tätowieren lassen, warum Menschen zum Tätowierer werden oder welche ästhetischen Aspekte das Thema Tattoo beinhaltet. Schaut man dann fokussierter auf den Vorgang des Tätowierens, fällt der Blick zuerst auf das Medium des Tattoos, die Leinwand, die es ein Leben lang beherbergen wird, die Haut. Darüber hinaus ist der zeichenhafte Vorgang des Tätowierens eingelassen in eine besondere soziale Situation, die sich zwischen dem Tätowierer und seinen Kunden abspielt, ist das Tätowieren selbst ein zeichenbehafteter Prozess. Wie aber hängen das Tattoo und das Tätowieren zusammen?
