This book spans nearly 60 years, from the early days of the Republic of China to the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee. Set against the backdrop of major events in China's social development and transformation, it focuses on Tonghaikou, a small town on the Jianghan Plain. Centered on the life experiences of the protagonist, Daya, the narrative vividly portrays the life journeys of several ordinary individuals born and raised there-Daya, Zhenhai, Xiajie, Yujie, Tianbao, and others-and traces the evolution of human hearts and nature. It implicitly reveals the historical inevitability of Chinese social changes, while particularly extolling the sunflower-like virtues of Daya and others: their radiance, loyalty, selfless dedication, fearlessness in the face of difficulties and setbacks, open-mindedness, and upright conduct.

本书从民国初年写到十一届三中全会召开，时间跨度近 60 年，以中国社会发展变化的重大事件为背景，聚焦到江汉平原的一个小镇--通海口，以主人公大丫的大半生经历为主轴，集中展现生于斯长于斯的几个平凡人物--大丫、振海、夏杰、宇洁、天宝等的人生际遇，以及人心、人性的变化轨迹，暗含了中国社会变迁的历史必然性，特别颂扬了大丫等人如葵花般，阳光、忠诚、无私奉献，不畏艰难、不惧挫折，胸襟开阔、做事坦荡的优秀品质。
