Step Into The Plate

How many times have you attended a church or revival service where they passed the plate for an offering? It used to be the norm almost every time such an event took place. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's actually a form of worship, a way to acknowledge all that God has done for us through the redemptive power of His Son, Jesus Christ. It was our way to give just a little bit back to Him, or, at least, the ministry being performed by those who serve Him. These days, however, most churches don't "pass the plate." Instead, we can place our offering into a container at the back of the sanctuary, or even make the contribution online, regularly or otherwise.

What gets lost in that translation, and even when the plate is passed, is the simple act of worship. We forget what it meant for the widow in Luke 21:1-4 who put in her "two mites." As Jesus pointed out, everyone else there that day at the temple gave out of their wealth and abundance. But she gave everything she had, all she had to live on. Let that sink in for a minute. Would you be willing to give everything you have to live on? Would I? The answer is probably, if not, definitely, "No."

Step Into The Plate is a gentle reminder of what it means to give our all to Christ. It's a reminder of why we should give our all to Christ, because He gave His all for us.
