Somewhere, in a galaxy that should never have existed, a girl with extinguished skin sits in a corner of a station and tries to feel nothing. Not because she does not want to. But because, if she feels, her skin will light up - and everyone will see. Here, the colour of your skin betrays you, silence is discipline, and what you feel can become as real as matter.

Somewhere, on the same station, a man takes a bullet to the chest. The wound closes before the blood can reach the floor. It is not the first time. The universe has been trying, for centuries, to kill him. It does not succeed.

Around them, an entire galaxy holds its breath. There are races that have sold their oceans, and races that have forgotten their names. There are ships that breathe, thrones that read blood, and swords that pay you with your own flesh. They all believe they are fighting for something different. They are all wrong in the same way.

I will not tell you that it is a story about love, though you will feel how it hurts. I will not tell you that it is about power, though you will see how it corrupts. I will not tell you what it is about - because if you knew beforehand, you would no longer believe anyone in it.

But I will tell you one thing: on the morning when the girl with the extinguished skin chose to feel, somewhere, thousands of light-years away, someone noted the exact moment. Someone chose what she would see afterwards. Someone decided who would cross her path.
