It started with a single red crayon.

In clinics from London to Tokyo, unrelated children are drawing the exact same figure: a woman with unnaturally long arms, a high-collared dress, and a face with a wide, flat smile but no eyes. They call her the Guest.

Child psychologist Sarah initially dismisses the phenomenon as a shared cultural delusion or a digital trend. But then the drawings begin to appear in places no child could reach. Then the humming begins-a low, tuneless vibration heard in the streets of major cities. And then, the adults begin to see her standing in the shadows of their own homes.
