As educators we cannot ignore the influence that popular media have on our own and our students perceptions, expectations and identities. The volume contains a broad selection of media examples and topics, making the discussion of identity and stereotypes in the classroom accessible to all who seek to address the question: In the educational context does art imitate life, or does life imitate art? (Dr. Jennifer S. Hallett) Difference manifests in myriad of ways in our relationships with others. These relationships play a critical role in the classroom to impact teaching and learning. Each essay offers different and yet important insights into the numerous ways that our racial and/or ethnic identities shape social relations to complicate our understanding of identities. (Sheila S. Lee) This important volume is situated at the intersection of identity, ethnicity and art. It is far more than a theoretical exploration into these valuable topics but a praxis oriented text that explores how each topic can inform new ways of engaging marginalized communities. (Joel S. Ward)
