"I always felt different from other kids growing up. I always felt like I never fit in............until I discovered drugs and alcohol. At first, getting drunk and high was fun. Substances took away my depression, anxiety and that social awkwardness that I really struggled with. After a few beers, I had confidence and self-esteem. After smoking a joint, I felt like one of the cool kids. After a handful of pills, I could smile and be happy. Drugs and alcohol truly did solve all my problems............until they started creating all my problems. Once addiction took over, it was pure misery! Opiates controlled my life from the moment I woke up until the moment I fell asleep. Suicide was a common thought then. I didn't want to die, I just wanted the pain to stop."
