Diese Arbeit beleuchtet das linguistische Phänomen der rhetorischen Fragen unter sprachpragmatischen Gesichtspunkten. Auf der Folie sprachlichen Handelns lassen sich rhetorische Fragen eindeutig beschreiben und klassifizieren. Im Fokus steht eine gesamtlinguistische Betrachtung des Phänomens rhetorischer Fragen. Der Ansatz ist dabei holistisch: Es werden linguistische und pragmatische Einzelaspekte zu einem Gesamtbild zusammengeschlossen. Dabei zeigt der Autor, dass sich rhetorische Fragen in ein übergeordnetes linguistisches Konzept - indem man Fragesatz von Fragehandlung unterscheidet - einordnen und dadurch adäquat beschreiben lassen und dass es eine Vielzahl an Regularitäten und linguistischen Merkmalen gibt, die den rhetorischen Fragen einen (kommunikativen) Sonderstatus unter den Fragetypen einräumen.
