Davon ausgehend entwirft er in Anknüpfung an Konzepte der klassischen Religionssoziologie eine Theorie, die die sozialen Mechanismen erfasst, durch die Protestbewegungen entstehen, sich stabilisieren und auch kulturellen Wandel in Gang setzen. Dieses Buch ermöglicht damit ein genaueres Verständnis von Protestphänomenen. Zugleich zeigt es, welchen Nutzen die Analyse radikaler Protestbewegungen für die allgemeine sozialtheoretische Diskussion bringt.
