Pura vida: Beginning Spanish is an input-rich, culture-based Beginning Spanish program. The Costa Rican expression Pura vida, which means "pure life" or "true to life," reflects the program's commitment to true-to-life portrayals of Latin American and Spanish cultures. This program supports the five goals of the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning -- communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and communities. The program departs from prevalent portrayals of el mundo hispano or pan-latinidad to illustrate the differences among the twenty-one Spanish-speaking countries.
