Dies beinhaltet zwangsläufig auch die Frage nach dem Subjekt und seiner Identität. Die moderne Transplantationsmedizin gibt gleichzeitig das Versprechen der Erlösung während sie auf die Transzendenz des Bestehenden verzichtet. Decker diskutiert diese Entwicklung theoretisch und lässt Patienten Tagebuch über ihr Befinden nach Transplantationen führen. Dabei zeigt sich eine zunehmende Entsinnlichung.
