However, it contains much that will interest the professional electron microscope user, not least the extensive bibliography and the detailed case histories. Carefully distilling the experience of twenty-five years, the author explains the operating principles and construction of the various members of the electron microscope family. An account is given of how specimens are prepared for examination and what the results look like. Appendices summarise the essential science and technology of vacuum systems, vacuum deposition of films, X-ray generation and analysis, and electron sources in microscopes. The text is very fully illustrated.
