From 1945 - 1993, international football played a pivotal role in a world poised on mutually assured destruction.

This is a story of that world, told through the lens of football. It focusses on the fates of three men, and one match. The men are Alf Ramsey, Kazimierz Gorski and Bobby Moore.

The match is Poland v England.

From the first international in 1872 between England and Scotland, through World Cups and European Championships, until a fateful night in June 1973, the story of international association football unfolds like a classic legend.

A unique take, which will have you riveted as you follow the story from a damp recreation field in Glasgow to the unbelievable monument of soccer, the Maracana in Rio, to the hallowed steps of Wembley Stadium in July 1966...

June 6th 1973. Katowice, Poland.

England's national football team venture behind the Iron Curtain to play a competitive match for the first time. While the Cold War rages, and a cloud of nuclear doom hangs over the entire human race, football has become a guiding beacon of hope for a peaceful world.

The home side is just beginning its unique football journey, while the visitors are stuck in the past. Tonight, England are about to be blown away by the future.
