Dr. Robert Wichard Pohl wurde in Hamburg geboren, wo er auch sein Studium der Physik begann, das er in Berlin fortsetzte. Dort schrieb er später auch seine Habilitationsarbeit ``Die Physik der Röntgenstrahlen``, die er im Jahre 1912 als Buch veröffentlichte. Seine Arbeit entstand aus den Vorlesungen und Referaten seiner eigenen Lehrtätigkeit als Assistent an der Universität Berlin, und beabsichtigt den damals aktuellen Kenntnisstand von Röntgenstrahlen durch die Darstellung wesentlicher Untersuchungsergebnisse zu erklären. Sowohl mit diesem Werk, wie auch mit seiner späteren Professur in Göttingen, leistete Dr. Pohl einen großen Beitrag zur Vermittlung physikalischen Wissens. Sorgfältig nachbearbeiteter Nachdruck der Ausgabe von 1912.
