This is Volume 2 of the collected works of Giordano Bruno, an Italian philosopher, mathematician, poet, and cosmological theorist. He is known for his cosmological theories, which conceptually extended the then-novel Copernican model. Bruno proposed that the stars were just distant suns orbited by their own planets and raised the possibility that these planets might foster life of their own. He also insisted that the universe was infinite and could have no center.

Beginning in 1593, Bruno was tried for heresy by the Roman Inquisition on charges including denial of several core Catholic doctrines. Bruno was found guilty, declared a heretic, and burned at the stake in Campo de' Fiori in Rome in 1600.
