This book assesses the state-of-the-art in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applied to ship design and provides directions for the future developments in the field. It presents hulls, types of computations, and methods. Global results related to resistance and propulsion are evaluated and an analysis of all resistance predictions is presented. §Relations between accuracy, grid density and turbulence modelling are discussed. Conclusions are drawn on the obtainable accuracy, using present state-of-the-art methods. §A statistical evaluation of the reported sinkage and trim is made, and compared with measured data. For the propulsion different methods for representing the propeller are evaluated. A large effort was made to examine the wake behind the hulls, both with and without an operating propeller. Global seakeeping results are analyzed.
