Nach einer vergleichenden Untersuchung der lexikalischen Negation im Deutschen, Serbischen und Türkischen, die eine Reihe von neuen Erkenntnissen zu in allen drei Sprachen produktiven Verfahren erbringt, wird die Stellung des Negators ebenfalls sowohl für das Deutsche als auch sprachübergreifend behandelt. Für die Analyse der universellen Strukturen des Zusammenwirkens von Negation und Interrogation werden Beschreibungsansätze zum Status von Satzmodi diskutiert und weiterentwickelt sowie eine empirische Basis zugrundegelegt, die insgesamt 52 Sprachen umfaßt.
