Mittenwald, Kriegsende 1945: Fliehende Wehrmachtssoldaten, Flüchtlinge aus dem Osten und entlassene KZ-Häftlinge strömen in den Ort, amerikanische Panzer rollen ein. Tonnen von Gold und Devisen der Berliner Reichsbank werden im Gebirge über dem Walchensee vergraben: das Nazigold. Kurz darauf räumen die Amerikaner die Gruben leer. Ein Jahr später wird der ehemalige Kommandant der Gebirgsjäger-Kaserne und jetzige Betreiber des Ami-Amüsierclubs "Crazy Horse" ermordet. Kommissar Gropper, der in Mittenwald nicht nur diesen Mord aufklären, sondern auch seine Jugendliebe Wilma wiederfinden will, stößt bei seinen Ermittlungen auf weitere mysteriöse Todesfälle und bringt sich selbst damit in große Gefahr.
