It was delivered by Admiral Sureesh Mehta, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Naval Staff. The theme of the National Security Seminar 2008 was: Conflicts in the North East. It covered: an overview of the insurgencies in the North East; external linkages, demographic changes, geopolitical developments in the neighbourhood and their impact; and the need to achieve politico military synergy and importance of the North East in pursuit of India's 'Look East Policy'. It was a very wide canvas and included wide ranging issues. The panelists and the participants included many personalities who had first hand experiences of the situation in the North East from the very top level (governor/army/corps commanders) down to company commanders and officers from civil administration as well as Central Police.
