Pertenece a la clasificación de midrases homiléticos que, encabezados en importancia por Midrás Rabbah, se ocupan de dilucidar asuntos vinculados con la praxis de la existencia judía. Es más homogéneo que Midrás Rabbah, obra mixta en tiempo y autores. Al igual que Levítico Rabbah, es una colección de homilías en torno al ciclo de los sedarim de la sinagoga. Reconocer su relevancia en el proceso interpretativo es un hecho emergente. Los estudios del judaísmo rabínico tienen una deuda pendiente con esta área de la literatura, y la Biblioteca Midrásica, una vez más, tiene a bien aportar textos en castellano que compensen esa necesidad.
