Alla fine la protagonista sposerà il cugino Edmund, figlio di Sir Thomas, e con lui si stabilirà definitivamente a Mansfield Park. Al di là dell’apparente trionfo della morale tradizionale, la narrazione contiene un’implicita e corrosiva critica della cultura dominante del primo Ottocento: Fanny – suggerisce l’autrice – realizza, infatti, l’ascesa sociale al prezzo della negazione della propria libertà e spontaneità. "Mansfield Park" ha il suo vero centro nel tema scottante dell’educazione femminile e dimostra tutta la modernità di Jane Austen, le cui opere, non a caso, conoscono oggi uno straordinario e duraturo successo, coronato anche da fortunate trasposizioni cinematografiche.
