Malo-Woussou is a polyphonic novel that explores unacknowledged family ties within three families over forty years. Barakissa Kamaté, from Ivory Coast, is eighteen years old and in her final year of high school. Her younger brother, Bouba, is ten. Hussein, on the other hand, never knew his father. He has just returned from his adventure in Libya to rebuild his life in Chad. All three share an inextricable family connection. Moussa Haggar, a former Chadian police officer with the United Nations in Ivory Coast, sees two children from his past reappear, children he never acknowledged and whose existence he was unaware of. In the twilight of his life, Father Haggar yearns for forgiveness and redemption. Underlying the narrative, this novel also questions the blind spots of UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding operations around the world.
