Symbole de résistance à l’oppression, poème d’amour à la portée universelle, Liberté a été écrit par Paul Eluard en 1942 sous l’Occupation nazie. Appris et récité dans les écoles, traduit et étudié dans le monde entier, Liberté est probablement le poème français le plus célèbre du XXe siècle.
Cette édition est accompagnée d’une notice inédite retraçant l’histoire de ce poème : des circonstances de son écriture à sa circulation clandestine dans les réseaux résistants ; de son largage par les avions de la RAF sur la France occupée jusqu’à sa publication aux Éditions de Minuit en 1945 dans Paris libéré.
