Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855), a Danish philosopher and theologian, was one of the strongest opponents of Hegelian systematism, and is considered to be the Father of Existentialism. This book, intended merely as an introduction to Kierkegaard's work, reviews the historical, social, and philosophical context in which his thought evolved. The author then guides the reader on a philosophical journey through the various stages of existence, using a thematic itinerary in which Kierkegaard's fundamental concepts are considered : dread, irony, freedom, responsibility, despair, finiteness, History, and indirect communication. Lastly, the author outlines the impact on contemporary thought of Kierkegaard's unique work - half-literary and half-philosophical - which has so profoundly influenced Gabriel Marce, Jean-Paul Sartre, Karl Barth, Martin Heidegger, Leon Chestov, Emmanuel Levinas, and Vladimir Jankelevitch.Charles Le Blanc, who holds a doctorate in philosophy, has published a critical edition of the work of Schlegel and Lichtenberg.
