Der Schriftsteller Georg Hermann (1871-1943) stammte aus einer jüdisch-berlinerischen Familie und war zunächst Journalist, bevor er zu einem der meistgelesenen deutschsprachigen Autoren im ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde. Sein größter Erfolg war der 1906 veröffentlichte Roman "Jettchen Gebert", der im liberalen Milieu einer jüdischen Familie im Berlin der 1840er Jahre spielt. Die kulturhistorisch präzise, zugleich ironische Schilderung von Milieu und Menschen brachte Hermann den Ruf eines "jüdischen Fontane" ein. 1933 emigrierte der Autor nach Holland, 1943 wurde er in Auschwitz ermordet.
