Clay Wilder moved to Portland, Oregon, three years ago looking for community, love, and success as a visual artistand so far he's zero for three. He doesn't know how to fit in with the trendy artists in the city, or to boil himself down to the elevator pitch that would make him more popular on dating apps. He's thinking of abandoning the city altogether when he meets someone who might change his feelings about Portland, and his destiny, altogether.

Lee is an older man, grounded, confident, and mature in all the ways Clay isn't, and he sees something in Clay that no one else has. On their third date, Lee drops a bombshell even Clayprone to catastrophizingcouldn't have seen coming. The older man claims to be a visitor from the future. A very specific future, in fact, where he and Clay are married, successful, and blissfully happy. But in order for that future to materialize, Clay needs to seek out Lee's younger self in the present and get things started. He must also not, under any circumstances, reveal his agenda, or the knowledge he has about the future.

Skeptical, but unwilling to give up on a future with the man he's fallen all-too quickly for, Clay seeks out the younger Lee (going by his full name, Raleigh) and discovers a passionate artist who is pretentious, aloof, self-centered, and seems to represent everything Clay hates about Portland's art scene. How can this guy possibly grow up to be the man Clay loves? Clay's doubts about their future only grow when Lee returns once more to guide him, hinting at a great tragedy that can only be averted if Clay stays on course. But how can Clay fall for Raleigh and avert this disaster...when the man he truly wants is right in front of him?
