HiSET Math for Beginners

HiSET Math for Beginners is a patient, start-from-zero guide to the mathematics subtest of the HiSET high school equivalency exam. It is written for adult learners and students who have been away from math for a while, and it builds every skill one small step at a time.

The book opens with a clear map of the HiSET math test, then works through 21 short chapters:

• Number skills: whole numbers and place value, the four operations, order of operations, factors and primes, integers, fractions, decimals, percents, and ratios and proportions
• Measurement and geometry: exponents and roots, units of measurement, perimeter, area and volume, angles and triangles, the Pythagorean theorem, and the coordinate plane
• Data analysis: reading graphs and tables, mean, median, mode and range, and probability
• Algebra: expressions, equations, inequalities, and a first look at systems and polynomials

Each chapter explains the ideas in plain language with key-idea boxes, test tips, and worked examples, followed by practice exercises with an answer key. Checkpoint reviews after each group of chapters, a final review chapter, and a 50-question practice test help you confirm that the skills have stuck.
