Die Infektion mit Herpes simplex gehört zu den am häufigsten sexuell übertragenen Infektionen. Da die Infektion bei Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter häufig vorkommt, kann sie während der Schwangerschaft auf den Fötus und das Neugeborene übertragen werden. Das Herpes-simplex-Virus ist eine wichtige Ursache für Infektionen bei Neugeborenen, die zum Tod oder zu langfristigen Behinderungen führen können. Selten in der Gebärmutter, wie es häufig bei der Übertragung während der Geburt geschieht. Die größte Gefahr einer Übertragung auf den Fötus und das Neugeborene besteht bei einer frühen mütterlichen Infektion in der zweiten Hälfte der Schwangerschaft. Die Gefahr einer mütterlich-fötal-neonatalen Herpes-simplex-Übertragung kann durch eine Behandlung mit antiviralen Arzneimitteln oder in bestimmten Fällen durch einen Kaiserschnitt vermindert werden. Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, Empfehlungen für die Behandlung von Herpes-simplex-Infektionen in der Schwangerschaft und Ansätze zur Verringerung der perinatalen Übertragung des Herpes-simplex-Virus zu geben.
