When she is in danger of choking out of pure boredom, she falls in love with the actor Igor and follows him to Moscow. This love affair too ends abruptly when she gets to know the psychiatrist Ivan and experiences her true love which, however, ends as a complete failure like her earlier relationships. Out of pure desperation Elja marries the next best Westerner and moves to the 'Golden West' with him. Yet she soon finds out that this 'Paradise', too, is not the solution to her problems.§
