Der deutsche Mathematiker Moritz Pasch (1843-1930) beschäftigte sich insbesondere mit den Grundlagen der Geometrie. Nach ihm ist das "Axiom von Pasch" benannt, das eine Lücke in Euklids axiomatischen Aufbau der Geometrie schließt. §Nach dem Studium in Breslau und der Promotion (1865) habilitierte sich Pasch 1870 an der Justus-Liebig Universität in Gießen mit einer Arbeit "Zur Theorie der Komplexe und Kongruenzen von Geraden". 1873 wurde er zum außerordentlichen Professor ernannt und zwei Jahre später zum ordentlichen Professor berufen. 1887 wurde ihm die Direktion des mathematischen Seminars übertragen.
