In the context of the spatial turn , the study develops a concept of border crossings integrating the concepts of heterotopy (Foucault), borderline and transgression, threshold und liminality (Turner) as well as interstices or Third Spaces (Bhabha, Anzaldúa, Soja) and ZwischenWeltenSchreiben (Ette).§Focusing on different aspects in the individual analyses of the three novels chosen androgyny as metaphor, madness between lovesickness and mystical experience, and utopia , this study demonstrates the fruitfulness of the concept for the analysis of literary texts.§
