Great Intercessory Prayer

Before Jesus went to the cross to die for the sins of His lost sheep, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and prayed, what some consider to be, the greatest prayer ever prayed. To redeem His lost sheep Jesus had left His place in glory and came into the world as a man. As a man He lived a perfect life, kept the law, and died a vicarious death.Having finished the work assigned Him by the Father He was now ready to return to the glory He had with the Father before the world was. But, He had some special requests of the Father for those given to Him by the Father. He did not pray for the world, but for those given to Him by the Father.He declared that He had kept those who were His while He was with them, but now He asked the Father to keep them from the evil. He also prayed for those who would follow them by believing on Him through their word. He did not ask the Father to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil that was in the world. His purpose for them was to take His message into all the world. He had saved them and would save others through their word. His final request was that all those who had been given to Him might be with Him and behold His glory forever. He prayed that God might show His love to them, the same love that He had for Him.
