Good Grief!

Good Grief! - Songs in the Sea of Hope began with a story Carrie Helliesen had already spent two years writing. Just as she was nearing completion of her memoir, a fire destroyed her home-and with it, every form in which the manuscript had been saved. The trauma that followed, along with the many losses and challenges she had already carried, made returning to the story feel impossible.

Yet she could not let it go.

Through her love of music, photography, and the ocean, its shores, skies, and living world, Carrie found a new language for the story: poetry, reflections, and photographs. What emerged is a deeply personal exploration of the many currents of the human experience-grief, loss, trauma, pain, disruption, healing, and transformation-where grief and gratitude can exist side by side.
