Als Ende der 80er Jahre der Zerfall des ehemaligen Jugoslawien drohte, wurde die Bevölkerung mithilfe von Geschlechterkonstruktionen auf einen Krieg eingestimmt. Im Zuge nationalistischer Prozesse mussten die zusammen lebenden Ethnien hierzu vorab unterschieden und definiert, Ethnizität also erst konstruiert werden. Diese Arbeit geht der Frage nach, welche Bilder von Männlichkeit, Weiblichkeit und Sexualität dabei diskursiv in den ex-jugoslawischen Medien als auch gewaltsam im Krieg aufgegriffen wurden, um Ethnizität, Kriegs- und Gewaltbereitschaft herzustellen. Dazu werden die komplexen Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Ethnizität, Gender, Nationalismus, Gewalt, Krieg, Vorkriegs- und Kriegsdiskursen, gesamtgesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen und Geschlechterverhältnissen im ehemaligen Jugoslawien untersucht. Die Arbeit gibt Einblicke in diese Zusammenhänge anhand von Diskursanalysen und genderrelevanter Nationalismus- und Konfliktforschung. Sie stellt insbesondere wichtige Forschungsergebnisse von internationalen Wissenschaftlerinnen zu Gender, Krieg und Viktimisierung in Ex-Jugoslawien vor.
