John Barnett found the defects nobody wanted to see - oxygen systems that failed one time in four, metal shavings buried near live wiring, three hundred flaws in a single section of fuselage. He documented every one of them, the way he'd always been taught to. In return, he was demoted, sidelined, and pushed out of a career he'd built his entire life around.

He didn't stop. He took his case to the federal government. He took it to the press. And in March 2024, in the middle of a deposition that could have finally forced Boeing to answer for what he'd found, he was found dead in a hotel parking lot in Charleston.
