JULIE, A NEWBIE LAWYER and her daughter, Zebra, are running from an abusive husband/father. She is forced down a dark deserted road where her car breaks down at a gate that has all the earmarks of being absolute hell. There she is forced to trust the last person, (Benny) any mother would want around her 5-year-old daughter.
After an in-depth conversation with Benny, along with the help of Zebra, who has an extraordinary sense of character for someone so young. Julie decides to review the court records that were used to convict him. She soon finds glaring contradictions, but she can't get past the extreme bias in the town of Zackot. Julie, who has her own difficulties with her husband, can't afford to be seen with her daughter around town and is forced to leave Zebra in the care of Benny as she investigates his case. As one would expect, it all blew up and Julie finds herself defending Benny in an uphill court battle. This has a Perry Mason-Esque feel and when the final culprit is exposed, it is someone no one expects. This story has three running themes with each having its own intense epiphany.
