"Fettklößchen" ist eine der bekanntesten Novellen von Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) und erschien erstmals 1880. Hintergrund der Erzählung ist der deutsch-französische Krieg. In der von preußischen Truppen besetzten Normandie versuchen zehn Personen in einer Postkutsche La Havre zu erreichen, um von dort aus ins rettende England überzusetzen. Unter den Fahrgästen ist auch die Pariser Prostituierte Fettklößchen, die am untersten Rand der Gesellschaft steht, die anderen Reisenden hingegen verkörpern vor allem das gehobene Bürgertum. Als die Kutsche von einem preußischen Offizier angehalten wird, der für die Weiterfahrt Fettklößchens Dienste in Anspruch nehmen will, eskaliert die Situation.
