This book offers a fresh, non-technical perspective on feedback control. By recalling a central concept of Norbert Wiener's cybernetics, a positive feedback is expected to stimulate growth, thus having a destabilizing effect, while a negative feedback is used to maintain homeostasis, thus having a stabilizing effect. In this book, the narrow border between growth and homeostasis - or in other words, destruction and prosperity, as a consequence of feedback control, is analyzed in a unique, not too technical, depth. A plenty of examples, taken from the financial, environmental and medical contexts, are discussed, with a special emphasis on gaining knowledge on the emergence of crises, and elaborating strategies to avoid or manage them.
