Four of the boys he played against every lunch hour signed professional contracts - Efes, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, DSİ. He was supposed to be next.

Kerem Aksoy grew up big and mislabeled on İstanbul's courts: filed as a center, secretly quick, rebuilt one evening by a stranger who fixed his broken jump shot and vanished without giving his name. By his final year of high school he was trading baskets daily with the best young players in Türkiye, club men were standing at the schoolyard fence, and a French university acceptance sat on the kitchen table as the safety net under a rising career. A team in Montpellier had already agreed to take a look at him.

Then, two weeks before his flight - on a beach, in a volleyball game that meant nothing - one jump, two cracks: a dislocated kneecap and a ruptured meniscus. The surgeon offered an operation and a year of supervised recovery. The university would not wait. At seventeen, he had to choose between his basketball career and his life. He chose his life, with a huge resentment, and watched from a rented apartment in France as everyone signed but him.

What follows is the part sports memoirs usually skip: the year at the bottom. The tram he rode every day to the university he couldn't make himself enter. The Sunday calls home where nothing he said was true. The strangers - a café owner, a market vendor, an old man at a tram stop - who held his head above water in three-sentence increments without ever learning his name. And then the slow, unglamorous climb: exams retaken, a degree ground out, a dream job won with skills a decade of basketball had installed without telling him - and, years later, a man at a court fence saying to some struggling kid the four words a stranger once said to him.

Everyone Signed But Me is a true story about the almost - the career that was never quite offered, the window that closed in ninety seconds of sand - and an honest accounting of what the game leaves behind when it takes everything else. No scouts appear. The comeback never comes. What holds is the bottom, and what the bottom teaches: it holds. Push up.
