ESPWA

Michael Quinn's ESPWA is a generous and wide-ranging collection. In only 24 poems, he moves from the power of nature to the shadows of bloodshed in Ireland's past, from politics now to the wisdom of 14th century Persian mystic Hafez, and from the small but incalculable kindnesses of love and community to the vital importance of song, poetry, and joy. His is a vision of deep compassion for those who can be swept away by war and oppression, yet who also fi nd transcendence in family, belief, and love. This is a collection that gives full voice to the ordinary eople, us: we may be, as Quinn says, only "a moth," but we are "seeking light eternal."

On the ESPWA project: Founded in 2011, Project ESPWA is an Irish humanitarian charity dedicated to bringing practical relief to communities affected by war, famine, natural disasters and health emergencies.

ESPWA (pronounced ess-puh-wah) is the Creole word for hope, reflecting the charity's origins in Haiti. Since then, its work has expanded to support vulnerable communities in Ukraine, Kenya, Uganda, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

The charity purchases, packs and transports shipping containers filled with donated supplies that make an immediate and tangible difference on the ground. Through years of experience and carefully developed logistics networks, Project ESPWA ensures essential aid reaches those who need it most, when they need it most.

Project ESPWA is entirely volunteer-led. No one receives a salary and every member of the team gives their time freely. Funded solely through public generosity, every cent raised is directed into humanitarian relief, ensuring donations have the greatest possible impact.
